Job Summary:
The Customer Success Team is focused on helping SmithRx’s clients derive the full value of their PBM services. We build and manage effective relationships with our customers’ operational leadership, communicating the value of our services in the context of customers’ business goals with the goal of retaining high performing, satisfied customers. We identify risks to client satisfaction proactively and collaborate across product and operational lines to tenaciously pursue solutions and advocate for our clients.
As a SmithRx Account Executive, you will be the primary strategic partner for our clients (employers, health plans, or TPA groups). You aren't just a "point of contact"; you are a healthcare consultant responsible for managing a book of business, driving client retention, and identifying opportunities to optimize pharmacy spend while improving member outcomes. You will bring strong industry and PBM knowledge and serve as a trusted advisor and business partner for your client’s operational leadership.
What you will do:
Establish and maintain relationships for large complex accounts
Own and facilitate end to end renewal process
Accountable for client satisfaction
Lead internal teams and act as internal client advocate
Provide executive updates on client status and risks.
Represent Customer Success in Finalist meetings.
Analyze pharmacy claims data to identify trends, provide cost-containment recommendations, and deliver quarterly/annual business reviews (QBRs).
Create and maintain a client strategic action plan.
Partner with clinical pharmacists to present formulary changes and clinical program recommendations to clients.
Stay ahead of industry trends, including drug pipelines, legislative changes, and competitive PBM landscapes.
Partner with leadership to review deliverables (QBR’s, reporting and client communications) to ensure "executive-ready" quality.
Coordinate with internal teams (Implementation, Operations, and Pricing) to resolve member issues and ensure seamless service delivery.
Serve as a formal or informal mentor to Account Managers (AMs), Account Specialists, and Account Coordinators; provide guidance on client communication strategies, career development, and navigating complex PBM workflows.
Responsible for understanding the Client's organization & structure, knowing the Client's product/services and staying aware of Client news and changes. Maintain and update Client record with changes.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships in liaison role with Pharmacy Operations, service partner contacts and client contacts.
Ensure full, proactive communication of all important client account activities with cross-functional partners
Prioritize issues and assess escalations that may lead to client attrition risk with the Account Managers to ensure a strong mitigation plan is in place
Travel required: Up to 25%
What you will bring to SmithRx:
Requires 3-5 years of Account Executive experience in PBM or health insurance
Requires 5+ years of direct account management or relationships management experience in the healthcare space; working knowledge of commercial health insurance and pharmacy benefits strongly preferred
Ability to interpret complex data sets (claims, rebates, and ROI) and translate them into actionable stories for C-suite executives.
A positive growth mindset with the ability to approach difficult situations in a calm and focused manner; understand the challenge and move forward tactfully towards a solution
Executive-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively navigate and mediate conflict and foster honest dialogue
Experience in Client relationship management ensuring expectations and deliverables are documented and met, key stakeholders are informed, and client satisfaction is achieved
Ability to work independently as well as part of an extended, cross-functional team
Self-driven, results-oriented and disciplined work ethic
Ability to take initiative with little to no direction
Be transparent and honest in a positive, professional and polite manner
Expert conflict resolution skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

$129,000 — $150,000 USD
Zone B includes the following locations:
California - outside of San Francisco Bay Area
Metro Denver / Boulder - Colorado
Metro District of Columbia - District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia
Metro Boston / Cambridge - Massachusetts and New Hampshire
Metro Austin - Texas
Metro Seattle - Washington
Zone B Pay Range
$129,000 — $150,000 USD
Zone C includes all other locations not listed above, including:

Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary: The range listed above reflects our standard pay scale and actual pay will vary based on work location, job level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Total Rewards: In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for bonuses, commissions, or equity.
